SoloContigo Welcomes Chef Jamie DeRosa Onboard

The gourmet fare of award-winning chef Jamie DeRosa found new wine pairings onboard the yacht SoloContigo in April, at a special event hosted by SoloContigo Wine. Digest Miami  introduced the first edition of its Tastemakers Dinner Series aboard the vessel, in celebration of the one-year anniversary of Tongue & Cheek restaurant, where DeRosa is both owner and head chef.

The Tastemakers Dinner series is an invite-only event bringing together key influencers in business, culinary, philanthropic and social circles for a monthly cocktail reception and dining experience. Each dinner is hosted at a secret location that is only revealed 24 hours prior to the event.

Chef DeRosa conjured a menu of five courses, which were paired with a selection of Solo Contigo wines. For instance, the entree was a tender short rib, accompanied by couscous, house-made cucumber yoghurt and harissa. It was paired with SoloContigo’s French oak-aged Colección Malbec 2010, which has a 90-point rating by Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate.

“It was beyond successful,” said national sales and marketing director Chris Ladas, reflecting on how well the meal was received, and how guests lingered through the warm evening on the SoloContigo yacht. They stayed to share stories with Noel and Terry Neelands, owners of the vessel and of SoloContigo Wine. SoloContigo produces a selection of premium wines in Argentina.

Four Silvers for SoloContigo at Vegas Wholesalers Show

Four varietals from the SoloContigo collection left the Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of America Annual Expo in Las Vegas in early April with silver medals around their slim necks.

The four vintages — the Sauvignon Blanc 2012, Chardonnay 2012, Reserva 2010 and Premium Malbec 2011 — were part of the inventory that SoloContigo showcased to wholesale buyers at the show.

A record number of suppliers, service providers and wholesalers came to the WSWA exposition and conference, April 8 to 10 at Caesars Palace Las Vegas. There were, for instance, 60 to 70 Malbecs from Argentina alone. The WSWA is the national trade association representing the wholesale tier of the wine and spirits industry in the U.S., with member firms totalling 80% of the wine/spirits market in the country.

The four SoloContigo wines earned their honours at the show’s Wine & Spirits Tasting Competition. Judging for the competition was managed by The Tasting Panel magazine, one of the most widely circulated trade publications in the beverage industry.

“It was a great show, we made a lot of contacts, and we’re moving the brand across the country,” said Chris Ladas, national sales and marketing director for SoloContigo.

Celebs Sample SoloContigo at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival

SoloContigo Wines joined A-listers, alt musicians, assorted celebrities and pals at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California in mid-April. SoloContigo helped welcome assorted guests to the Soho Desert House at a select site in La Quinta about 10 minutes from the show stages.

The chic refuge from the desert heat took up temporary residence at an estate chosen for its convenience and privacy, transformed to reflect the design of existing Soho Clubs.

Solo Contigo joined Bacardi and Peroni as the exclusive beverages served on the menu of wines, spirits and beers. Three bars at the Soho Desert House offered tastings of SoloContigo Sauvignon Blanc 2011 and Premium Malbec 2011.

“The brand recognition was off the charts, with all the people who saw and tried the wines,” said Chris Ladas, national sales and marketing director for SoloContigo, who was on hand to help present the wines. “This was the coolest oasis in the desert.”
